Dinghy report 3rd December 2016.

5 Lasers turned up to be greeted by Geraint, Jane and Mal already on Calibre the committee boat and Efryn in the safety launch. A big Thank you for your support in the cold and lumpy conditions.
Cragie started the day by going to the top of Just Enough’s mast a J92 in the Marina. He was freezing wrapping his legs around that metal mast in the cold NE wind straight from Russia.
He was happier later when reacquainted with the watch he had inadvertently left in gents showers the week before.

IMG 1809Craigie spotted the port bias on the line and was heard chuckling to himself as he just cleared the bow of Capt Gareth who tacked and created mayhem in front of John B on starboard. There was a lot of screaming going on.
The first to capsize was Craigie as the wind started picking up with white horses and lumpy seas rolling down the harbour.
John was leading at the windward mark on the second beat but the red mist came down when he went to the wrong red mark (NE instead of NW) allowing Capt Gareth to sneak in and take line honours and the bullet in the 25 min 56 sec race.

This one will be remembered for Craigie down wind speed first, he rolled Cogger to leeward much to Cogger's annoyance - must have been the weed stuck on his plate slowing him down and stayed with Gareth and John on the final down wind leg finishing only 7 seconds behind their full size sails in the 24 min 30 second race.
Karl capsized due to his boat being rigged wrong and his toe strap breaking, he retired from this race to fix his boat.
The OOD Geraint “Washie” was unable to distinguish between Gareth and John on the finishing line and gave them joint line honours however Craigie beat them both on handicap by 42 seconds and took the bullet.

John B had a horrendous start as there was no room at the inn and had the door slammed hard shut in front of him by the laser wolf pack. .However Karl in his fixed boat had a cracking start and the lead for the first lap but succumbed to the pressure on the final run, allowing Gareth to sneak in at the last rounding to the hooked finish with 3 boats abreast at that mark. Gareth went mad at the finish, even punching the air in celebration after beating Karl by 2 seconds who beat John by 1 second.
Cogger had a point to prove and covered Cragie to the finish with the radials taking the bullet and 2nd on corrected time.

Race 4

Race 4 was not started as the boys headed for the beach - first to crack was Gareth “l’m cold bar time”.
Quote from the OOD “There was a lot of pushing and holding on today and l’m going to start cracking the whip no more mr nice guy” you have been warned!
John B completely stuffed up on reaching the beach and almost capsized on to the other boats “take the elastic off John”.
The fleet were dragged up the slipway to all look at Craigie’s boat - somehow or other he had no battens in “ utterly unbelievable” was heard echoing around he Club house for hours.
Cragie won the series on 6 points with Capt Gareth Second on 6.5 points.

Racing this Saturday 10th December first race start 13:00. Committee boat booked,
He has a new car! Oppies coming to play.
