Here is a report from John Jones about the cruise, sorry for the late publication.

Light winds from the North East gave a close reach all the way, with boats doing some sailing but most of the fleet motor sailing to make Douglas by last bridge lift at 19:00.

No major issues, but we lost Cygnet, who diverted to Castletown with an

engine problem. The rest of the fleet where safely in Douglas by 18:00 which left a full evening to enjoy the town; we all meet up for a “de-brief”  at Douglas Bay Sailing Club who were most welcoming.

Sunday; free day on the Isle of Man to enjoy the sights in glorious weather. With some crews visiting Laxey and the famous Wheel, some enjoying the TT preparations in the “paddock” and others just
“enjoying”. Cockpits fully utilised for entertaining in lovely sunshine.

Monday; early start for most with a 04:45 bridge lift to exit the marina. Again, very nice conditions for our return with N to NNE winds of about 10kn with slight seas and bright sunshine but again a day for the engine, with only few spinnakers deployed for a token sail. An issue with the main sail on Mirandae quickly sorted out with help from Ken off Incantation showing how a little mutual support can help take the stress out of sailing.   All boats safely home mid-afternoon.

Many thanks to Douglas Harbour and Marina, Douglas Bay Sailing Club for making us most welcome. And a big, thank you to all the HSC boats, crew’s and skippers who came and helped to make it a great weekend for us all, David, Helen and crew on Houdini, Paul and Cath on Hierro, John and crew on Invicta, Bob and crew on Crystal, Co skippers Chris and Lesley on Mirandae, Ken and Fenton on Incantation, Gordon and Cathy on Jura Haze, Keith and crew on Wave Sweeper, Roger and family on Woodwind, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Downs on Cygnes, Steve and Sandra on Explore, Gareth Hughes and crew on Paliajs and to Vance and Simon for helping me crew Madam Wen.

Date of next HSC cruise is August Bank Holiday weekend – destination “UNKNOWN” – (probably Ireland.)
