As we approach the end of the traditional season here at Holyhead we are organising the second of our winter series cruiser races. The club will also be organising the usual dinghy races over the winter. Please encourage all your skipper colleagues to sign up and join in.
Input from Cogger: Dinghy racing Starts 7th Oct 12:00 start 4 races, back to back
Last year we had some fantastic weather for sailing with only 3 Sundays missed due to inclement weather. It now looks like the Offshores will be racing on Sundays with anticipated start time of 14:00 to run for around 2 - 3 hours. It would be great if the various skippers would sign up their yachts so that we have a better idea of who will be joining in this year.
As the club moorings are not available over the period from the end of October through to the end of March next year we will be berthing our participating yachts in Holyhead Marina.
So far we have interest from:
- Pipedreamer VI
- Just Enough
- Just Jay
- Mikki Finn

First Pre Winter Sunday Race 2017
Following the cancellation of the penultimate Wednesday Evening race of 2017 two yachts assembled for a race starting at 14:00hrs
Crews for Just Enough and Lily met at the club for a chate about the race and then took to the launch and prepared for the race start, however Lily had a problem getting her engine started and so the start time was delayed to 14:10.

Race #5 30th August
For the last race of the August Wednesday evening race the weather was ideal with a steady 8 to 10kt south westerly breeze and sunshine.

From the start Lily and Carpe Diem lead the field on the breakwater side of the start line, Carpe Diem flying her kite from the approach to the start keeping up with Lily until Lily’s spinnaker hoist was complete. At the harbour entrance it was Lily leading the field with Just Enough to windward as they started the dead downwind leg to Bolivar. Just Enough’s asymmetric was pulling well but not able to sail as deep as Lily and the other following yachts all gybed sailing on port tack against
